A Simple Guide to Caring for Your Hearing Aids

Modern hearing aids are tough little devices — but a few daily habits make the difference between aids that last for years and aids that keep visiting the repair bench. Here is the routine we teach every patient at their fitting.

Nightly: wipe, open, charge

Wipe each aid with a dry cloth, open the battery door (or drop rechargeables in their case) and let them air out overnight. Moisture is the number-one enemy — a simple drying box protects your investment.

Weekly: wax filters and domes

Earwax clogging the receiver is the most common cause of "my aid sounds weak." Check wax filters weekly and swap them at the first sign of buildup — it takes seconds and restores full sound.

What actually extends their life

Keep aids away from heat and hairspray, bring them to your scheduled clean-and-check visits, and never attempt home repairs on receivers or microphones. With basic care, quality aids serve reliably for five years or more.
